The skin is the body’s largest organ. What you put on your skin soaks straight into your body, into your blood and then moves around your whole body. I generally only use oils to moisturize my skin. However, there are times when I like to have a lotion on hand – when I travel, in my car and purse for example.
This lotion is super easy to make in your kitchen – you need a double boiler, a large mixing bowl and an electric whisk. The glycerin and beeswax help thicken the lotion, giving it a creamy consistency. They can both be bought in health food stores. You can get it in beads or as a lump – the beads are easier because you don’t need to do any grating!
INGREDIENTS
2 ½ oz Almond Oil or Olive Oil or Jojoba Oil
1 ½ oz Coconut Oil
¼ oz Beeswax
4 oz Distilled Water
1 Tbs Glycerin
Essential Oils
8 oz Mason Jar
METHOD
Heat oils and beeswax in a double boiler. While the mix cools a little bit, boil the mason jar in water and lay the parts on a dishcloth to dry and cool down. Pour the melted oils into the large mixing bowl (keep away your kids and pets because hot oil is dangerous). Use the electric whisk to mix in the glycerin and slowly add the water. Now this is the fun bit – add essential oils, in drops of 10 at a time, until it smells fabulous! I usually use a mix of Lavender, Bergamot, Neroli, Orange, Sandalwood & Jasmine. My 4 yr old daughter loves this part and gets involved in stirring and smelling!
