Wake up before dawn. I know, I know. This seems like suuuuuchhh a drag, doesn’t it? But, there are few really important reasons to do this.

The first is that waking up before dawn means you are waking in the Vata hours, which in Ayurveda is associated with space and air, which is light, clear, expansive energy. You won’t feel the need for a vat of coffee to cut through the sludge.

The second is, that you if you wake up before everyone else in your home, you will have the time to start the day on YOUR terms. Starting the day on your terms means you fill your cup or put on your oxygen mask first, so when your family gets up, you are not being drained.

The third is that there’s a great precedent. The billionaires & CEOS of the world all have clear, precise morning routines – rise before the sun and then a variety of exercise, reflection, meditation, gratitude practices, reading, lemon water/healthy breakfasts.
