Sometimes when I worked with executive coaching clients, we would talk about communities and how to build their social network, which could support them in different facets of their lives.

Often my clients would talk about mentors and creating good mentoring relationships in their lives and how fulfilling they could be. Almost always though, they would talk about their relationships with people who were peers or who were older. This leads me to have quite a few conversations with people about the fact that younger people could also be mentors.

I would suggest to my clients to look for wisdom in the young, for a number of reasons. 1)  there is this lack of jadedness 2) they may have technical expertise in a field that is new to you and 3) younger people may often have a lack of filters from past experiences which can color your thoughts.

Don’t discount one or the other!!
