If you live somewhere with fabulous, cold, snowy winters like I do, then you are probably starting to get excited about the shift that is now underway.  The snow is starting to melt, I am seeing muddy grass for the first time in months and the temperature has actually hit 45F for the first time since the fall.  Daffodils are appearing in our local stores.  The birds are chirping and I can walk my dog without wearing gloves and a hat!  The clocks went forward here in the USA on sunday morning, so I am now looking forward to those long, lazy, light evenings.

I have found myself in the last two weeks feeling sludgy in my system and starting to crave more spring-like foods – green smoothies, marinated salads, lighter summery soups.  My system intuitively wants to reboot and get ready for the awakening that goes with spring.  Oatmeal has seemed much less appealing this last week and my desire to drink warm, nourishing milky teas and coffees is receding!

I have also found myself noticing my desire to sort and rationalize and re-organize my living area – my bookshelves, my closet, my pantry, my office.  I am driven to reorganize and categorize my bookshelves and have already started – novels, parenting, buddhism, yoga, science and evolution and psychology, ayurveda & health, business and coaching.

I want to sell those purses I haven’t used in ages, donate to charity or pass on to friends the kids clothes that they have outgrown, and throw out/cut up for rags those tank tops and socks that have become holey and grey.  My pantry is calling to me to find space and evaluate what’s there and what isn’t and what needs replenishing.  And my office, too:  I want to get back in there and start to use it again. I have avoided working in my office these last few freezing cold months and have instead been working in my kitchen on my laptop – it’s warmer, I have easier access to tea and my dog likes to lie by my feet on the warm wooden floor (with under-floor heating). But, now, with spring, I want to return to my office, which has 6 windows (3 on two sides – it’s a corner room) and lets in light and I can see the trees and hear the birds!

For me, detoxing is not just about my diet.  It’s about clearing all of it out, so I am ready to embrace the new season and all it has to offer. If you want some help with this, click here and arrange to chat with me!

Spring Forward, with Pep in Your Step!

“I believe in process. I believe in four seasons. I believe that winter’s tough, but spring’s coming. I believe that there’s a growing season. And I think that you realize that in life, you grow. You get better.” Steve Southerland
